RFID use at REWE Group

Model and objectives
Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the key technology for future efficient processes in trading. The aim of REWE Group is to cooperate with suppliers in making the supply chain more efficient and more effective, by using existing and new RFID technologies and the relevant available information. Typical problems, such as e.g. out-of-stock situations are to be reduced and logistical processes made more efficient, effective and future-oriented.

REWE Group has successfully been using radio-frequency identification in logistics and other areas since 2004 already. Today, three logistics locations of the PENNY sales line are equipped with RFID from goods-in, through warehousing and up to goods-out. Further areas of application are being evaluated.

As a pioneer in this area, REWE Group is striving towards being process leader also in future and aims to achieve this through standardised communication and the integrated use of RFID.
