Now that REWE Group has successfully integrated RFID technology into goods-in at the Penny Warehouse in Norderstedt, the focus of project activities is turning to other processes in the supply chain. Thus, for example, RFID-supported warehousing processes are currently being tested for the practical applications and their benefits. To this end, storing locations and forklifts have been fitted with RFID technology.

Within the framework of the test, a warehousing process is initiated automatically by the goods-in process, i.e. event-controlled, by linking the goods to the storing location using the system technology.

The underlying principle of this process is, like goods-in, to use a standardized communications medium in accordance with the standards of EPCglobal.
