At REWE Group we are not planning nor working towards making our customers “transparent”, i.e. gathering information on them. The focus at the moment is exclusively on using RFID in logistics. REWE Group would like to be better able to replenish stock with the efficient use of modern technology. The goods are to reach the stores by the shortest possible route. REWE Group wants its goods to be even fresher and less expensive by the time they reach the customer. On this point, RFID also offers advantages for the customer without the latter having direct contact with it.

The tagging of individual products does not seem to be useful at this stage purely on the grounds of cost/benefit issues. The transparent customer is thus still far away.
